Band Biography
Initially born out of a line up change in Urotsukidoji, Photobook was conceived around the fall of 2000 by Jamie Keleher and Ross Blair. United by common musical ground and the desire to do something a little different the pair began writing songs using guitars and an old organ in Jamie's bedroom. Early influences were the OneLineDrawing eps, Penfold, Appleseed Cast and Sunny Day Real Estate. Although progress was fairly slow because Ross was also in Urotsukidoji, who were fairly busy between the summer of 2001 and 2002, a couple of sketchy bedroom recordings on to tape were made and the recruitment of an extra guitarist, Martin Jones.
As a three piece Photobook played their first show with Rydell and One Time Champion on 19/12/2002 at the Lanterns in Folkstone.
Influences having broadened, the band began to acquire a fondness for cheesy 80's Casio keyboards and old school Roland drum machines. Some fresh songs were written and recorded in the summer of 2003 with the help of electronic sound guru Michael Wright. Soon afterwards Photobook said goodbye to Martin Jones and hello to Simon Minter, also the drummer of Jairus, who was extremely enthusiastic about the musical development. Thus began the writing of an album, all recorded in their bedrooms on to 4-track tape and mastered by Michael Wright. Photobook is now warm, electronic, emo and thoroughly D.I.Y.!!!
In 2004 the pace has stepped up a little, although busy with both uni and with recording, Photobook stepped out to play a few shows over the summer. and made some new friends on the way.
