Band Biography
The story of Speedwell is a long and arduous one. Speedwell began in the fall of 1996 as Meredith Bragg, Troy Farmer, and Jonathan Roth. We played some shows in our college town and recorded a seven inch record that was released by Sport. Soon after this, Brian Minter joined the band. We then toured the southeastern U.S. with Engine Down. We also wrote some great songs, most of which were lost to the sands of time and never recorded, before we broke up in May of 1998.
The story doesn't end there, though. Two years later, bored with our jobs as corporate stiffs, we decided to reform and set upon the task of once again rocking the world, or at least the eastern U.S. We recorded a CD EP that was released by Engineer records, and added another member to the band, Cheryl Huber. This line-up toured the southeastern U.S. with fellow D.C. rockers Metropolitan. Once again, we wrote some more great songs that were never recorded, and Speedwell split up again in February of 2003.
Throughout our sporadic career, we played shows with such notable bands as the Dismemberment, Plan, Mates of State, Silver Scooter, the Van Pelt, Jimmy Eat World, the Get Up Kids, Mineral, Milemarker, and 400 Years. We also appeared on various compilations released by Deep Elm, Ignition, and Underadar Records.
Meredith Bragg has since launched a career as a singer/songwriter, with Brian Minter and Jonathan Roth in his back-up band.
