13 January 2006 | Elemae, Malaysian ears are smiling
With their 1st pressing sold out solely through Engineer Records, the 2nd pressing of Elemae's sophmore full-length "Popular Misconceptions of Happiness" will be a split release between Engineer Recs USA/UK and new Malaysian label Embrace Records. This 2nd pressing will be issued as a digipak with extra artwork/pics, 2 bonus tracks including an awesome cover of Shudder To Think's "X-French Tee Shirt" and a bonus "mini-movie" tracing the bands evolution over the past 6 years shot by Michael Mead. There will also be a free poster, sticker and postcard given away in limited quantities at the initial re-release date set for early Spring.
Ensuring all parts of the globe are covered. It's great when indies tag-team in support of a band, no egos, no alterior motives...just getting the music to more ears.
12 January 2006 | Reigning Metal in Dingman's Ferry
Catalyst have taken a breather from their usually active gig schedule to chisel out some new material towards their next release, presumably a full-length slated for this Summer of 'O6. With an active 2005, promoting their split EP "Two Sides of The Suicide King," sharing many stages with the likes of The Red Chord, Turmoil, Bleeding Through and a slew of others, its about time the band settles into their Pennsylvania rehearsal room to mold some new material. When we asked the band to hint at the sound of the new material, they kept using the term...METAL as if they were saving the word from extinction.
In other news, Fugo has also taken to the studio and writing new material, as well as completing mixes of a few more songs left unfinished during the "AIE" sessions. It is yet to be determined what will happen with these songs, but more material from this intricate and creative group is NEVER a bad thing. Just check out the reviews section for their aurally appealing "AIE" cd.
All artwork and mixing is done for one of the newest additions to the Engineer family, FOR THOSE LOST. The band is just awaiting their material back from the mastering studio, and their creative blend of old school meets new blood metallic hardcore will go off for pressing.
15 December 2005 | No One Is Broken In Nine Days
NEW RELEASES ARE IN! We have a few new releases at our fingertips awaiting mass consumption! (Check both the UK and the USA stores for availibility on each title). They are:
The enormous sound of NINE DAYS TO NO ONE's new "Ark" EP is nothing short of enthralling. Recorded at City Of Dis with Ben Phillips (producer of Converge, November Coming Fire, etc...) & artwork by David Ince, there was no shortcuts taken on presenting the masterful piece of art on CD. Both heavy and textural all within the same space. Truly needs to be heard. You can preview a track on our Myspace site here: http://www.myspace.com/engineerrecords
WE.RE ALL BROKEN's new limited vinly pressing of "Ambrosia" with 2 exclusive B-Side tracks has finally graced the offices of Engineer and Koi Records, in another one of our split label releases. Truly the packaging and the record (brown/green splatter vinyl) needs to be held, drooled over, and hung on your wall. Well that is AFTER you've worn out the grooves listening to their beautiful progressive ambient sound. This time they expanded their intense rock scope into a lush, orchestrated acoustic setting for 2 bonus tracks. To read more visit their band page, and to hear a sample, preview a track on our Myspace site here: http://www.myspace.com/engineerrecords
ANDTHEWINNERIS, well...us and you! As the band has their latest "The Punch and Judy Show" coming down the channels of Engineer, direct to your stereo. Brimming with power punk hooks, a guitar crunch reminiscent of Samiam and the sweetest melodic vocals this side of the Get Up Kids, Andthewinneris will not be left by the wayside. Not nearly newcomers to the scene, they are to Engineer, so let's welcome them with a standing ovation, something we are sure they are no strangers to in their hometown of Hamburg. Preview a track on our Myspace site here: http://www.myspace.com/engineerrecords
15 December 2005 | The Fire Still Burns
In other news...melodic punk powerhouse, and recent Blackout Records (by way of Engineer/Koi) signees THE FIRE STILL BURNS are seeking a new rhythm section! And a solid one too, with the guts and glory to take it to the road, in no time. Here's their press release that went out this week:
As some of you may or may not know, THE FIRE STILL BURNS recently parted ways with our drummer and bass player. Fortunately for the rest of the remaining members, the band is doing better than ever. With a recently released CDep out and several tours (US and Europe) in the works, we have no plans of slowing down any time soon. In fact, we are looking to replace our bass player and drummer as quickly as possible to prevent any further delay.
Were looking for new members at least 21 years of age or older who are 110% serious, dedicated and willing to tour regularly. Prior tour experience a plus but not required. You must have your own professional gear. We practice at least twice per week in Dunellen, NJ and anticipate playing shows regularly on weekends when not on tour.
Bass players must be able to play fast melodic hardcore in traditional tuning w/ drop D.
Drummers must be able to play fast melodic hardcore tempos a la Dave Wagenshutz (Kid Dynamite / Good Riddance / Paint it Black), Travis Barker (Blink182) and Bill Stevenson (Descendents / All / Black Flag / Only Crime).
If you've never heard us before, check out our MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/thefirestillburns
Seriously interested parties should get in touch by messaging the band via email to: info@thefirestillburns.com. Please pass on, repost , etc. Thanks for your help and have a happy and healthy holiday season!!!
22 November 2005 | Nathaniel Sutton, biggest fan?!
Calling all Engineer fans out there...we are starting a 'Biggest Fan' section of our site for EXTRAORDINARY people out there who impress us with their ultimate dedication! This will be under the "FANDOM" link in the menu bar.
Let's kick things off with Nathaniel Sutton from Alberta, Canada. Well, lets just say Nathaniel 'paid his dues' by ordering EVERY release we still had available on the Distro on CD! Yep, we're not shy....this was above and beyond the call of duty. Someone buy this kid a record player so he can get some vinyl crackling in his bedroom as well! (hey, the folks at Engineer have holiday gifts to pay for too!) He wrote us his "fave list" of the lot, and we thought we'd post it. Thanks Nathaniel! Here it goes:
- Neverthemore - Neverthemore
- Madeleine - Boy = Man
- Crosstide - Seventeen Nautical Miles
- Elemae - Popular Misconceptions of Happiness
- Elemae - A Life to be Defined
- The Moirai - Bury Yourself
- Fugo - Aie
- Hunter Gatherer - Low Standards For High Fives
- Flyswatter - Repeat In Pattern
- Merciana - Let It Begin
- Joshua - Baggage EP
- Chamberlain - Five Year Diary
- Cornflames - The Farewell Drive
A little about Nathaniel...well residing in Edmonton, Alberta Canada...he's an aspiring musician too! He sent us a demo CD, and it sounds VERY cool. Dark humored melodic indie pop. Tons of originality, but also traces of Folk Implosion, Eric Bachman, Modest Mouse, Pinback, The Good Life bubbling out of the seems. We'd love you to give this boy some love...head on over to his MySpace page and listen to some songs, drop him (and us) an email if you like what you hear. We did! Just check out the songs "Cruel" and you'll see. http://www.myspace.com/nathanielsutton
11 November 2005 | Metal T-Shirts
New Son Of The Mourning tees are available from the band via their website or directly emailing the band at sonofthemourning@hotmail.com and checking on size availability and ordering instructions. Get 'em now, all in 'heavy metal black' colour of course!
In other SOTM news, word just in that you NEED to witness the band live with their ferocious new line-up. They've been tearing up many shows around their homebase and are currently looking for tour contacts/tourmates asap! We should have another release next year to follow their two solid EP's!
In other news, THE BOSS and FOR THOSE LOST are in the studio recording their debut CDs for Engineer as this goes to print.
The beautiful WE.RE ALL BROKEN 'limited vinyl' as well as the new NINE DAYS TO NO ONE "Ark" EP are both at the pressing plant! They'll be back sooner than you can grab your hands in mercy for such good music to grace your ears again.
And finally, we have confirmation that the highly anticipated ANDTHEWINNERIS release will slither into our UK hands next week, then slither right out to our USA home as well as mags, distros, press, and YOUR hands soon to follow! Damn if this isn't the catchiest lot since the flu!
29 October 2005 | Nine Days To No One
Southeast England's Nine Days To No One have just turned over their master recordings for their beautifully crushing epic EP entitled "Ark." Tracklist goes as follows:
- Twilight Of The Idols
- Jadoo
- Venus On Fire
- Tacit
- So My Inferior, This Ends
- And Then Came The Floods
- Gala Contemplating (Video).
Engineer has not released anything this ferocious in ages and we're not even sure if we're ready for it.
With just as much creativity infused into the song writing to rival the blunt force of grinding rhythms and machine gun drumming, Nine Days To No One are not afraid to show their brains along with their muscle. Combining elements of Grind, Metal, Jazz, Hardcore and Prog...this is technical hardcore at it's very finest.
We'll have a new track from the forthcoming EP on the site this week. Hold your ears.

02 October 2005 | AndTheWinnerIs
Engineer is excited to welcome a new band to our upcoming roster, they are Germany's.....AndTheWinnerIs! This amazingly catchy band with the best power chords you've heard in ages, is irresistable.
If you're a fan of Cornflames or stateside faves Get Up Kids or Samuel, AndTheWinnerIs will not pale in comparison, in fact, we're pretty sure they'll be getting more of your attention nowadays! Following a few EPs and releases on MyFavoriteToy Records, and Redfield, we at Engineer couldn't hold their flirting off anymore! We do love this team of roadhounds, they bust their butts and are gonna show us how their new record will blow our ears off! Why not check 'em out now at http://www.atwi.de
Also to follow, we are proud to offer a 2nd release from both of the hardcore hounds in Cohesion and Worlds Between Us. This times it comes as a split 'limited vinyl' 7inch record, limited to 500 copies.
A few brand new songs from both bands will tie together Italy and Austria with an aggressive charge! This one will be special, we are just unsure of how thick to make the vinyl as we know it'll get a good beating from your record player!
26 September 2005 | Last Chance For A Slow Dance
Two months ago, one of our favorite new CDs on Engineer was released, and it carried the name: "MERCIANA - Let It Begin." Such a strong, bold statement from a band with exposure at their fingertips and promise of climbing from underground status (with a few self-released demos under their belts) to next level awareness as their EP was about to launch alongside a Canadian tour, and international promotion.
In a dark contrast, internal pressures and band member differences clouded the way, and Merciana blanketed their fire just a couple weeks prior to the release date and silently faded into the backdrop, disbanding without a formal announcement or resolution. Well the time has come for a fond farewell with ONE LAST SHOW.
Everyone who is/was a fan of Merciana's hard hitting, adrenaline pumping, cascading, post-hardcore is encouraged to come support the band one last time and sing one last 'anvil chorus' with them in their home away from home, The Court Tavern in New Brunswick, NJ. (Details: Saturday, October 1st, 2005 7pm "DIAMONDPALOOZA" at The Court Tavern, New Brunswick, NJ http://www.courttavern.net)
29 August 2005 | Hey, that's OUR shining one!
On another 'hiatus' since their split CD with Son Of The Mourning was released, My Shining One is in search of a new vocalist to fill the shoes of their last two frontmen.
What happened to their latest guitarist-turned-singer, Chris Byrnes, you ask? He has joined touring duty (possibly more?) as bassist for current Hot ticket band Every Time I Die. (best wishes to Byrnsey, we understand...sob, sob!) My Shining One singer inquiries can listen in, and contact them off their Myspace page. Go, run, now!
26 August 2005 | We.re All Broken slays at CBGB's benefit w/Thursday!
Yesterday, August 25th, We.re All Broken played an exhaustive set to benefit CBGB's w/friends THURSDAY and THE BLACKOUT PACT.
A truly honorable even to benefit one of the most historic rock/punk venues in the world from closing it's doors...SAVE CBGB'S!! (The club was packed to the gills, in true honor that punk and independent culture is still as vital as it ever was, and the demand to see events like this is a necessity for the people of NYC. We can't afford to lose such an important cornerstone to music culture).
We.re All Broken played a truly executive set, encouraging crowd involvement from merely the volume and dynamic intensity of their music encompassing the crowd from the truly historic CBGB soundboard.
In other We.re All Broken news, the boys will then be heading up to CANADA for their first jaunt across the great norther border. Unfortunately, THE MOIRAI has dropped off this tour (view http://www.themoirai.com for details). In replacement, our NJ via Triple Crown friends in OUTSMARTING SIMON have joined the trip.
We wish them a great trip. Thanks to Paul at Coastline Recs for making this happen.

20 May 2005 | New Releases
We've been sooo busy at Engineer over the last couple of months, the new releases all seem to be coming in together and there are some absolutely great ones you just need to be checking out.
From the UK we have the ever hardcore, although 70's drop-out looking lads from SIX SECOND HERO with their new CD 'Recent History'. From Switzerland we have the math-rock of FUGO and their new CD 'Aie' and from the depths of sunny Italy we have the screamo anger of COHESION with their 'Lovely Hate' CD.
We also have the hauntingly beautiful 'Boy=Man' from Germany's MADELEINE and the Jawbreaker / HWM influenced 'When everything seems to be in silence' by RED CAR BURNS.
An embarassment of riches in the musical cool release department we would say!
15 May 2005 | Nine Days To No One Video & New CD
Nine Days To No One have just finished filming the video to 'Gala Contemplating', the bonecrushingly awesome opening track from their 'Disrecordings' debut CD on Engineer.
The video was filmed last month and as well as having the handsome Nine Days lads rocking out in it there are loads of metal / goths types hanging from hooks and chains floating around in it too! Should be a great one for the censors.
The video will be a bonus on their brand new CD, 'Ark' which will be recorded with Ben at City of Dis this very month. Look out for it o Engineer soon and prepare to bite heads off doves!

These, along with strong releases by our current roster, including Elemae, Son Of The Mourning, Sometimes Why, A Rocket Sent To You, etc will keep you listening with pleasure.
If you read the NEWS two entries prior to this one, you'll know how strong the My Shining One/Son Of The Mourning, Elemae and Merciana discs are expected to be. All are off at the mastering plants and getting album art finished. Expect these long-anticipated CDs to come out by March. Merciana will give you some catchy rocking, heartfelt tunes to sing along with your friends, My Shining One has you in a headlock with their powerful riffs, and if SOTM's tracks don't scare you faceless, nothing will. Elemae's 2nd long-player is a musical escapade ranging from intense, power driven emo rock, to warm acoustical flourishes and experimental accompaniments. Madeleine's "Supermarket in California" might just be our smoothest release yet, a blend of power-pop emo mixed with beautiful brit rock.
Much more news to come, please stay tuned for more. Happy Holidays and a punk rocking New Year, from your friends Craig and David at Engineer Records!
Thanks to all our bands and friends we've worked with and/or met over the years. Really...if we didn't believe in our underground culture and the music moving us there would be no Engineer! xxx

11 Dec 2004 | Band Members Wanted
Two of Engineer's best UK bands are looking for new members.
Son Of The Mourning have made a few changes after recording the new record for us and are looking for a guitarist and bassist, ideally from the Manchester area, right now.
Also, #1 Defender's drummer has decided to leave and it looks like the replacement might be Andy from One Time Champion.
More news on these amicable changes soon, but get in touch if you are in their area and can help.
25 Nov 2004 | 5 New Releases at Engineer
We have some awesome new releases here at Engineer Records that we hope you'll be checking out and ordering asap!
Five, yes five!, new releases all coming out now all at once. They are all different, but all rock and will blow you away! We are sending out promos now to chosen magazines, fanzines, radios, distros and promoters.
NeverTheMore - NeverTheMore CD - IGN069
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. If you've ever wondered what great bands like Appleseed Cast and Pop Unknown might sound like with a little more hardcore balls then here's your answer!
Skirmish - The Crooked and the Cavalier CD - IGN068
The guitars start strumming at the beginning of 'Fading Pace' and when the drums and bass come in you immediately know the pit has already started up. This brand new UK band are bringing hardcore home.
Vanilla Sky - Waiting For Something CD - IGN066
'Waiting For Something' is taking the pop-punk world by storm. The catchy and cool as hell guitar pop-punk is proving very popular with everyone who hears it and Vanilla Sky could well be Europe's answer to the likes of Blink 182, New Found Glory, Saves The Day and Get Up Kids.
Striving Higher - Striving Higher CD - IGN057
The 'Old School / NYHC' style seems to be very popular again in the hardcore scene right now. Some bands do it better than others, and some add some new ingredients, breathing life into the formula and making it really special. Striving Higher do just that.
Rentokill - Back To Convenience CD - IGN055
Blasting intense Punk Rock with a political and powerful message, Nothing but raw emotion and catchy punk-rock, and this fifteen song studio album captures it perfectly. Fans of NoFX will love this.
10 Oct 2004 | New Additions at Engineer
Engineer Records would like to welcome both My Shining One (ex-ForTheLoveOf, Ensign, Nora) and Merciana (also ex-Nora) to the roster. Both of these incredibly strong bands hail from New Jersey, USA and consequently have been brought to us by our new American branch of the label. (In case any of you clever fans have noticed the additional new contact added to this website, now you know why!) Soon up will be a US webstore full of ALL Engineer releases and more at USA prices! More on that when the time comes....for now here's a little bit about our exciting new releases on the way:
Merciana is a 4-piece melodic hardcore band, that is wound tight with catchy choruses, heart-on-sleeve lyrics, and a backbone of chugging rythms, crisp snare attacks and a powerful bottom end. They incorporate ethereal loop-driven intros, and an attention grabbing sense of urgency to their live set. It's no wonder they have shared stages wityh some of the scene's best...Boy Sets Fire, Dillinger Escape Plan, Armor For Sleep, Recover, My Chemical Romance, Underoath, Every Time I Die, Snapcase, Death by Stereo, Jealous Sound, Norma Jean, One Line Drawing, Gameface, Liars Academy, (International)Noise Conspiracy, Ted Leo, Dillinger Four, Against Me, Murder by Death...to name a few!!! Look out for a solid EP worth of songs to hit your ears from Engineer come January, or possibly sooner. Matt Haick is currently finishing vocals, and the rest of the band; bassist Ryan Roberts, drummer Christopher Walsh, and guitarist Shawn Reams, will all be mixing this lot of songs very soon. Go to their awesome website at http://www.merciana.com to hear some of their older (yet solid) demos and send them your love.
Also coming is the already anticipated EP by My Shining One and Son Of The Mourning. We're once again combining countries for this split, so expect nothing less than widespread domination. Those of you who have recently picked up Son Of The Mourning's 'Forest Bank' EP, know what to expect from this Manchester powerhouse, and those of you who don't know My Shining One, you will! (If the recent resurgence of John Stanley's older band ForTheLoveOf is any indication, the boys guitar playing will sure light the scene on fire once again. Expect legions to follow.) With metallic riffs (co-shredded by Chris Byrnes of Ensign/Nora), hardcore beats and a belly full of frustration by vocalist Rob O'Neil, there seems no better time than NOW to get these boys on the map. Their sound is current and solid, yet original enough to cough some fresh air into the scene. Tentative release is set for Jan/Feb. 2005. Hit them up at http://www.MyShiningOne.com for now...
In other news, soon to come is the RENTOKILL release of their "Back To Convenience" CD in the UK, as well as the long-awaited return of Elemae. Elemae's "Popular Misconceptions of Happiness" CD is on it's way...If you dug their single we put out 2 years ago, just wait until you hear this full-length piece of mood-induced indie rock. These guys write music in a category all their own, our closest band to Chamberlain on the roster. Combining both current and classic structures, with an extreme sense of melody, we at Engineer just call it Elemae.
18 Sep 2004 | #1 Defender and SOTM going fast!
There are less than fifty copies each remaining of the first presses of the #1 Defender and Son Of The Mourning new CD releases. Each CD had a first press of just 1000 and have proved pretty popular. These remaining few will be sold via the Engineer Records Mailorder And Distro so if you haven't ordered your copy yet, get moving!
13 Sep 2004 | 2 awesome new CD releases from Engineer Records this week!
Son Of The Mourning's "Forest Bank" ep, that kicks ass in a very original and very powerful way. Kind of like a clever Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan and Eden Maine at their best and #1 Defender's "Diary Truthful" ep that will rock your world in a more emo grooving way. Think of Far, Sensefield, Braid, Dashboard Confessional and Texas Is The Reason all mixed up and you'll be getting there. Both of these first presses are limited to 1000 copies and they are going very fast!
