Running on Empty (Jon)

Being the musical heathen that I am, I've only heard a couple of Shudder to Think tracks before, but those I have heard I liked. And After hearing this CD I definitely want to hear more as this is seriously good. The songs are really excellent and there are some great performances on here as well (particularly Rydell). There's one or two tracks that bore slightly but other than that this is well compiled and a pleasure to listen to. Probably the best comp CD I've heard in a while; enough variety to keep your interest, but with a common thread that keeps it coherent and listenable.

I was never a big Shudder To Think fan, but it seems there are lot of people who likes them. I remember only to have a live recordfrom them in my record collection, and i'm sure i had listened to it a couple of times. This cd include their songs played by bands like Joshua, Rydell, The Casket Lottery and many more for a total of 18 tracks. Anyway good emo rock stuff, but this isn't really my cup of tea.

This is the long promised tribute CD to Shudder To Think one of the most influencial bands to come out of the whole DC scene, not only were their early releases on Discord brilliant they were so different to anything else then and now, mainly due to the vocalists unique style. 'Get Your Goat', 'Ten Spot' and 'Funeral At The Movies' were just so good, the latter having the best version of Jimi Hendrix 'Crosstown Traffic' ever!!! Here you get numerous bands covering tracks form these releases and a few from their major label releases (which in my opinion where no where near as good as their earlier stuff).

Seventeen of the versions are good covers, I especially like the Mico, Tomorrow, Elemae, Joshua and We Talked About Murder versions, other bands that contribute are Rydell, Casket Lottery, Yeast, San Quentin and loads more. The only version I didn't like was the Meredith Bragg version of 'Funeral At The Movies' that just sounds so depressing it had me reaching for the nearest bottle of gin and a razor blade. Over all this is a good release, but I can't help but just want to reach into my collection and listen to the real thing, maybe I'm just too used to the original versions!!
