Raw Nerve (http://www.rawnervepromotions.co.uk)

Before we start, I have to make mention to how gorgeous the CD itself looks. A 3 inch CD but inside a normal sized CD, but clear with a design on it, looks absolutely striking and amazing, and has already caused quite a few comments from my friends.

The title track kicks its way in pretty well in the opening, pretty rocking, upbeat, big sounding geetars, and then it builds itself back up from verse through chorus, very strong sounding emo, having a fair Boysetsfire of old reference to it (moreso in mood and use of sung/shouty vocals), short, to the point, punching out. Very good.

I wonder what part "... the part you left out" is referring to. Whatever it is, it's a very good song, again similar sort of feel to Boysetsfire, more in its rhythms, and certainly rekindles some of the more old school emo style music, with extremely passionate vocals, shouting their pains out. Again short and hitting home its point with no time to argue. This is an even better song, and leaves me wanting a lot more, than just four minutes worth of high quality, emo-as-it-should-be danceable, heart-string-pulling rock.

Excellent.

It wasn't to long ago that a band by the name of Planes Mistaken For Stars (Planes) released their first the cd and immediately blew away every fan that heard them. After their first record was released on Deep Elm, Planes released a 7" EP entitled "Fucking Fight" which gained a lot of credibility and popularity among those who could get their hands on it. Earlier this year, Engineer Records released this amazing album on cd format for the first time, and now a new class of people without vinyl players can enjoy this always classic two-song disc. The entire record doesn't even achieve four minutes, but if you get a chance to hear it, you can easily see why "Fucking Fight" has been a favorite among Planes fans.

The EP starts off with the titled track, "Fucking Fight" which begins with a blazing fast tempo, including both powerful guitars and hard-hitting drums. The tone suddenly changes to a more mellow feel and introduces some very raw vocals. That roughness vocally is one aspect that has always appealed to Planes fans, they relay a ton of emotion in their music, but do so on their own terms. "The Part You Left Out" introduces a much more "screamier" sound to it. The vocals on this track are very much to my liking, conveying a ton of power. The musical aspect of the track are great as well, and the overall rating of the song is golden. The final track is certainly my favorite, and by far the most chaotic.

This EP will basically end right when you thought it was starting. It's extremely short and some might feel it's not worthy of purchasing. The fact is that two things stand for "Fucking Fight": first, this cd is considered a collectors piece to me, and any other fan of this band, and secondly, for the low price of buying this gem you get two amazingly emotional pieces of art. Planes Mistaken For Stars don't need to be justified in any way, and neither should this record. It's awesome all around, and a great listening experience.

Engineer is very proud to be releasing the long awaited CD version of Planes Mistaken For Stars' classic 7" "F**king Fight". Originally a vinyl 7" only release on DimMak records from the USA, these two songs were recorded in the period between the bands first self titled CD and the "Knife in the Marathon" CD, both on Deep Elm records. This short, but very sweet CD Single will hopefully allow many more people to be blown away by the mix of intensity and beauty that Planes Mistaken For Stars can create. This is what hardcore is all about.

A crap name can damage a young, fledgling band so it's a bloody good job I was sent this record. For, shallow as I am, if the name is shit it instantly puts me clean off. The first track 'Fuckin' Fight' does exactly what it suggests: hardcore screamo fuelled with relentless aggression and palpable passion. Trim and immediate at 1 min 43, it drives home the smouldering, raw guitars and desperately ragged vocals. 'The Part You Left Out' shows the band's ability to layer their sound, the screams of Gared O Donnell (not unlike that of Hondo Maclean's leading man) fighting it out with the defiant drumming of Mike Ricketts. Although the individual elements that make up Planes Mistaken For Stars are undeniably punk rock, the completed picture creates an overlying sense of the gothic and the importance of atmosphere to the music. Clearly blessed with an artistic sensibility, 'Fuckin' Fight' is never anything less than furiously heavy, resulting in the sound of a band with nothing to lose and, justice prevailing, everything to gain.

Running on Empty (Jon)

Wow this is quick! in the time it took me to write up the article and find the website it had finished. Well, you should all know what to expect with PMFS, fast rock / hardcore tinged with emo and these two tracks do not disappoint on the musical front. Opener fucking fight gets straight into it, with some shout and response vocals, while track two sees a nice burst of feedback before they get underway. I know they probably hate the emo tag but its hard to avoid. but in the proper sense of the word I mean, as in emotional hardcore, not skinny t-shirts. If you don't already own the 7" version of this then get it.

Previously released ad a 7" on Dim Mak Records, this two songs prove that Planesmistakenforstars are a great band. Compressed and hard emo screamish hardcore with deep and fast parts and an obscure recording. I like a lot the graphics, all in black and white and with the the usual cut and paste old punk style. This release proves also that Ignition Records are a very cool label and guys too.

Right I'm going to lift the history of this release straight of the Ignition site so here we go - 'this is the first time these songs have been available on CD format. This is the long awaited CD version of Planes Mistaken For Stars' classic 7" "Fucking Fight". Originally a vinyl 7" only release on DimMak records from the USA, these two songs were recorded in the period between the bands first self titled CD and the "Knife in the Marathon" CD, both on Deep Elm records. Between these CDs there was a noticeable change in sound. "Fucking fight" bridges the gap nicely." - Well I have to go along with the final comment. Most of you would have heard of PMFS by now if you haven't imagine a fiercer Grade. The question is, 'Is This CDEP Worth Getting??' well it's easier for me to say yes as I got it free for review and won't be paying about £3 for what is only 3:39 minutes music. Right here's my view, I think it's worth you shelling out for, the 2 tracks on here are great, I hear so many bands do this style of music really well, but this is in another league and the artwork especially on the onbody of the CD is very impressive.

Mike Diver at Logo (http://www.logo-magazine.com)

Two songs, each under two minutes long: pure punk rock fury. Originally released as a 7" on US label DimMak, between PMFS" two albums for Deep Elm Records, "Fucking Fight" is an adrenalin rush to rival the largest roller coaster, the highest sky dive or the fastest car. Despite the mostly screamed vocals, PMFS keep everything considerably more poetic than their peers, and produce songs with more passion, more heart and more "fucking fight" than a hundred emo bands, or two hundred Korn clones. This is perfect for anyone recently won over by Hot Water Music's astounding "Caution", or newcomers to older bands like Jawbreaker or Fugazi. Nah, fuck that; this IS perfect. Play me more exciting music than this and I'll shit myself.

The live energy of these Colorado mountain men Won't ever be captured on disc, but Fuck with Fire is a valid attempt. There's so much going on in these two songs, and at such a furious tempo, it's sometimes hard to pick out the melody amongst the noise and passion. Urgent and anxious, hurried and harrowing, Planes Mistaken for Stars lead the current pack of emo hardcore bands, and always sound like they are playing their first and last song. Fucking Fight is a short three and a half minute burst of life and death, like splashing your face with cold water before taking your last breath.

Leigh at The Communion (http://www.thecommunion.co.uk)

This is a CD version of the Dim Mak records 7 inch EP and contains only 2 songs, collectively only clocking up 3 minutes and 41 seconds. Although after this short time Planes Mistaken For Stars have left me wanting to hear more. The title track opens with a powerful driving guitar riff leading in to some beautifully crooned vocals (more Alice in chains than Staind so don't worry). The song soon picks up again into a frenzy of drumming and strong swirling guitars. Gared O'Donnell's beautiful voice continues to captivate your attention while some screamy backing vocals add the hardcore edge as the song all comes to a powerful climactic finish. The second track opens to some intricate guitars and pummelling drum work only to be followed by some wonderful screamo vocals which subside briefly for a little more crooning before we build up in to a screamy finish. This EP is truly a wonderful piece of work. Yet is let down by it's very poor recording, sounding like it was done by means of playing the 7 inch with a microphone placed in the middle of the room to record it. That complaint aside though, check them out, especially if you're a fan of Grade or Hot Water Music. 7.5/10

Most of you guys will know this one, but well, they really earned it! Ignition releases the legendary "Fucking Fight" 7" by Planes Mistaken For Stars (released on DimMak) as a CD version, so all of you, who don't have a record player can talk to the cool kids again, isn't that great? It may be a little confusing that there are only 2 songs on the CD but those two are really worth it and besides the rest of the CD is see-through and covered with a nice artwork on the CD itself, so it is a pleasure for those of us who like these little things. Do i even have to say anything about the music? Intense, emotional hardcore, with beautiful melodies and peaceful lines which emerge again and again, the whole thing is just as terrific as the voice which always gives me goose-bumps. So to all of you who haven't heard this one already: it's available on CD now!!

Jane at Still Believe (http://www.stillbelieve.com)

Have you ever wondered, what happened between Planes Mistaken for Stars' first self-titled release and their second release "Knife in the Marathon"? Well here is you answer: "Fucking Fight" released by Ignition. It is the long awaited CD version of Planes Mistaken for Stars' classic 7" "Fucking Fight". It bridges nicely the noticeable change in sound between their self titled debut Cod and the bands second CD, mixing the more touching moments of the first and the screaming mania of the second CD. It is simultaneously melodic and grinding, screaming, chaotic and peaceful with nice lyrics. Sadly the release is really really short, only two songs, but the amazing artwork somehow compensates that. Compare them to bands like Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker and Grade. Score: 7/10,
