Andy Pearson at Fear and Loathing has reviewed Assert’s new album ‘The Great Resist’
ASSERT. The Great Resist CD (Engineer)
Originally forming in Telford back in 1995, Assert are a steadfast presence on the UK hardcore/thrash scene.
They’ve released numerous albums and singles although they seem to have taken some sort of hiatus since their previous album, ‘Laser Tattoo Removal Service’ back in 2008. But the release of ‘The Great Resist’ finds them back at full strength, delivering their unrelenting and uncompromising assault on the ills of the modern world.
Vocalist Britt has the perfect voice for their music, aggressively snarling through the politically-charged lyrics but keeping just enough clarity to ensure that the purpose of the words isn’t lost within the maelstrom of noise.
The music is the perfect accompaniment to the anger and righteousness of the lyrics, insistent and compelling as it reflects the anger and disgust towards the self-serving corruption of endless politicians.
Assert have produced an album after a long time away from the studio, but it’s certainly amongst their best and most focused to date. Let’s hope they keep busy.
Grab a copy of Assert’s uncompromising album ‘The Great Resist’ on CD from Engineer Records.
