Last Dance of the Departed

It's bandcamp Friday and post-punk goth-rockers 1919 are back!

1919 are a post-punk band from Bradford, UK, and an early contributor to what became the Goth genre. They rock in a very Killing Joke, The Cult, sort of way and are coming back to play more gigs and release new records, so we’re working with them on a new single and releasing the pre-order right now!

The new 7” follows the musical and artwork style of their previous releases and is a double A-side containing the new songs ‘Last Dance of the Departed’ and ‘Satellite Man’

It will be available on limited edition green vinyl 7” and black vinyl 7” as well as a card sleeve CD, and all versions will come with a free digital download too.

The single will officially be released on 13th November this year BUT we are hoping to get this single into the charts so are launching the pre-order now, via the Engineer Records bandcamp and 1919’s bandcamp, so that all purchases can be counted and put forward for the alternative charts, hopefully gaining the band some more radio airplay and coverage. Support them and us if you can.

There's a video for ‘Last Dance of the Departed’ here: https://youtu.be/TPmFvn6PXR4?si=qvLMHvYU9vqg39H9

Post-Punk mag helped us announce the new 1919 record, saying:

Cult post-punks 1919 return with first 7” since 1983!

A pioneering goth band through singles such as “Cry Wolf”, their Machine LP, and two Peel sessions in the early ‘80s, 1919 returned after a 30-year hiatus to release 2017’s critically-acclaimed Bloodline LP (Westworld) and 2019’s Futurecide (Cleopatra). The band emerged from quarantine in 2021 with their fourth studio album, Citizens of Nowhere (Manic Depression), and the album saw the band labelled “head and shoulders above other denizens of the shadowy genre” in Vive Le Rock. Since then, the band have continued performing their high-intensity live shows across Europe and North America, including Leipzig’s Wave Gotik Treffen in 2023 and Brooklyn’s A Murder of Crows in 2024. 2025 saw 1919 inducted into the Leeds Goth Hall of Fame, performing in 2026 across the UK with alt legends Gaye Bykers on Acid, as well as a sold-out hometown show with fellow HoF inductees Salvation and Rose of Avalanche.

1919 have teamed up with Brighton indie Engineer Records to release “Last Dance of the Departed”: the band’s first studio release since 2021 and their first 7” single since “Cry Wolf”. B-side “Satellite Man” has become a live favourite over recent years, while an early review states:

“Last Dance of the Departed knows the party ends, knows the gods may be absent, knows the body goes back to ash, and still finds enough electricity in that knowledge to keep the dead dancing.”

Engineer Records is a truly independent alternative record label with over 400 rocking releases out in the world.

We believe punk rock is an ethic, even more than a sound, and have been promoting both brand new and well-known bands equally since our formation as Ignition Records back in 1999. The label is based in the southeast corner of England but has partners and distributers all over the world.

We are always looking for great bands and ways to promote our artists and their releases.
Please contact us if you can help in any way. Let's work together.

Join our mailing list to stay tuned for occasional updates on what's new in the Engineer Records family.

Thanks for joining!
