Our ‘Punk Adjacent’ chums at That’s Good Enough For Me have premiered the new Rites video for ‘Free’ saying; “What better way to start your week than a premiere of the new video “Free” from Dutch punks Rites? The song originally appears on the band’s debut LP 'No Change Without Me', which released in May 2023. If a year-and-a-half seems like a long time to put out a video, remember that their previous release was 2017’s 'Misery is Company' EP.”
‘Free’ is a song about being yourself without compromise. Being yourself isn’t something easily achieved for everyone and it should never be taken for granted. ‘Free’ is a homage to everyone who is brave enough to be their authentic selves and at the same time to the people who aren’t in a safe enough environment to let their voice be heard. It’s a song about the ongoing battle against racism, sexism and apartheid.
Also, who doesn’t like a new video? If anything, it shows the band is still kicking and, based on our experience, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve also got something new up their sleeves coming soon.
‘No Change Without Me’ is available at their Bandcamp, as well as on various media at Engineer Records (UK), Sell The Heart Records (USA), and Shield Recordings (EU).
It’s also streaming across all digital channels and you can find a bunch more Rites links at their linktree page.
