The Spanish philosopher George Satanaya once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”, and much as we wish that the bastions of the late nineties emo scene Joshua would return to save us from our musical sins, maybe they don’t need to as their last, and possibly best, record Nascent has just been reissued on vinyl, to show us all the self-manufactured errors of twenty-first-century emo scene.
Thoughts Words Action said that Nascent was “a significant cornerstone in the annals of 1990s emo and post-hardcore music” and that the reissue is “not just a nod to the past, but a celebration of the enduring power of music to connect, inspire, and transform”, so if you want to find out why yesterday was better, musically than today, then maybe you need a daily dose of Joshua…
