Rock reviewer Richard Proctor has been giving Amalia Bloom's 'Picturesque' a listen as we wait for the vinyl LPs to be pressed and here's his thoughts on the CD in the Velvet Thunder blog...
"Amalia Bloom is five friends with their feet firmly planted in their hometown Vicenza, Italy, and their heads turned overseas towards the US/UK scenes of the 90s and 00s (with broken hearts in between). This all means their music results in a peculiar mix of punk rock, hardcore and emo through which they search for a personal, overwhelming and often visceral sound, combined with nostalgic lyrics, screamed or whispered with energy, strength and intimate passion. Think early Bring Me The Horizon or Asking Alexandria?"
"The quintet has been active for a while, paving their way to the top in Italy with a profoundly melodic, but yet delicate approach to their genre. The group worked hard since their formation at the very beginning of 2014 and defined their sound. It wasn’t until April of 2019 when they published a couple of singles such as Chiaroscuro and Vessel as tasters for their debut full-length album Maiden Voyage in 2019, distributed worldwide by Engineer Records. In 2020 they released the single At Eternity’s Gate and in 2021 the acoustic EP Alive, a ballet! All of which paved the way for Picturesque, it’s a wide-ranging development of their previous work in which the band finds a new balance between melody and harsher sounds. A record dedicated to their beloved yet suffered city, an outlet with which the band gains momentum and reacts to the last two years spent in isolation"
FFO: Touché Amoré, Birds In Row, Poison The Well, Defeater, La Dispute, Pianos Become The Teeth.
"Picturesque has been released on CD through Engineer Records, and the vinyl LP is due to follow later this autumn. It offers ten post-hardcore compositions deeply rooted in the essentials of emo-core sound. There’s lots of hugely shredded guitar, soaked in a combination of blistering and echoing vocals, so that Amalia Bloom appears both ferociously aggressive and melancholic at the same time? They do also produce some quite compelling melodic hardcore ideas empowered by a taste for metalcore. Production, arrangements, and song structures all work within a contemporary soundmix so that the band sound innovative and modern".
The album will be released on coloured vinyl later this autumn by Engineer, Sell The Heart, Fireflies Fall and Dingleberry Records.
