Camden-based punk-rock trio Barking Poets, known for their charged anthems and social commentary, have dropped their latest EP, ‘Southsea Sounds‘. With tracks that tackle pressing issues such as austerity, racism, and climate change, the band is here to ensure that the political doesn’t lose its place in punk rock.

The EP kicks off with the fiery track ‘Getting Away With It,’ a robust critique of the ‘pull the ladder up’ mentality exhibited by some of today’s leaders. This track, like the rest on the EP, is rife with powerful riffs designed to get you up and moving—or at the very least, tapping your feet and singing along.
What sets Barking Poets apart is their unflinching commitment to addressing social issues head-on. They combine activism and music seamlessly.

I’ve been listening to pretty chill music today. I’m not sure why but it’s just hitting the spot. That being said, I can feel my energy levels dwindling. Enter: “Getting Away With It” from Barking Poets.
When this song hits, it hits hard and perfectly. “Getting Away With It” has a perfect nostalgic vibe to it but with a very current message. The first track off of Barking Poets’ new EP ‘Southsea Sounds’, this song is a political protest song with lyrics revolving around everything going on right now such as climate change, racism, the list goes on and on. I love the fact that this song has such a powerful message matched to such a catchy sound. There’s a classic rock n’ roll vibe throughout this song but there are also clear nods to everything from pop-punk to something more in line with Billy Talent. All in all, this is a powerful and anthemic track that deserves to be heard.
